What FeckTV is looking for in its writers and Page Managers

On FeckTV.com there is an ‘About Us’ page, which gives us an overview of the global TV network.  The previous article here, this one and the next add a bit of meat to those bones.

The job of the FeckTV page manager is twofold.  First and foremost, it is to produce no-holds barred, quality journalistic content.  Published daily, these news article provide an online presence that will drive traffic to our site.

Why is web traffic important to FeckTV?

The secondary purpose of a FeckTV Page Manager is to bring in revenue through Recommendations (sponsored ads) from pubs, restaurants and hotels in their country, county or city.

When people search our site for a given location, an intuitive Recommendation will appear as if by magic that will (hopefully) drive our surfers to the Recommended establishment.

Yes, it’s sort of advertising.  But tailored by us in a way that an establishment is willing to endorse on our site for the measly sum of €20/week.

Why is FeckTV different?  What’s its DCA?

As Barry Murphy, our CEO, asks in the FeckTV.com welcome video: is there genuinely a global media powerhouse out there without bias?  Politically, socially or otherwise?

Are there any media moguls truly prepared to put their arses on the line, pointing the fickle finger of satire in the direction of:

  • music
  • sport
  • entertainment
  • lifestyle
  • current affairs
  • technology
  • business and entrepreneurship?

The answer you’re looking for is: No!

That’s where FeckTV.com is looking to change the game.  FeckTV.com is looking to broadcast humourous – yet intelligent – news, with few restrictions, including profanity if it fits and the subject is worthy of such an exclamation.

This will be broadcast over two mediums:

Both methods will challenge the accepted manner in which today’s news is broadcast.  Oh, and kick some ass, to boot!

What if I can’t write in all FeckTV topics?

To be fair, unless you’ve a vast online article-writing experience to fall back on, the ability to cover all of the seven topics, plus writing the Recommendations, Attractions and Events pages, is a huge responsibility.

So, in the unlikely event that all the writers we employ as Page Managers are knowledgeable enough to write competently and in the fecktv.com style about all of those subjects, we have a contingency plan.  This is explained in the options below.

The pay for writing quality, SEO friendly articles for each subject is stupendous once the site embeds and begins to earn revenue from Recommendations.  I’m talking genuinely excellent.

However, it’s worthwhile pointing out here and now that site revenue has to build momentum before FeckTV is able to pay full expenses for what is, in essence, a no-cost franchise start-up.

How do Page Managers earn from fecktv.com?

The site revenue comes from Recommendations – sponsored adverts – placed by savvy business owners in the hospitality sector on our pages.  Initially, Recommendations will appear on the National Page and then on the city pages as the website takes off.

In order to make a City Page viable, we need a Recommendation in each category from the city in question.  One hotel, one bar, one restaurant or similar establishment in their genres is what I’m talking about.

A spit-n-sawdust pub, a café and a B&B will also do just fine, as long as they’re prepared to stump up the €20/week sponsored ad/Recommendation fee.  Not huge for a genuine business, is it?

With 79,000 hits in the first two weeks, it won’t take long for each National Page to gain an awesome following, online and via social media.  And, yes – each Page Manager will be responsible for spreading the word over social media, too.

The impact and visibility of fecktv.com as a media force to be reckoned with will be compounded by tactics CEO Barry Murphy has up his sleeve.  And he’s a big bloke, with long arms.

Remember, he’s been developing this for two years in the background.  This includes one-off events and an ongoing marketing campaign; UK mass-marketing is scheduled for early 2013, once the Irish campaign is complete.

How are payments made to FeckTV?

Whilst the task may seem daunting from here, research shows that advertisers will soon be searching the query “how to advertise with Fecktv“. Page Managers can target and answer the question succinctly.

There are two portals on site that can be used to accept the PayPal payments, which also facilitate credit/debit card payments.  Payments are taken in installments of €80 every four weeks.

The first portal is ideal for submitting a prepared review.  Namely, the establishment has agreed to pay for a Recommendation, are happy with the final draft of the review or are submitting their own (which we verify) in the FeckTV style and are ready to push the button.

The second portal accommodates payments only, with the review to follow.  This is ideal for sign-ups in situ.  The establishment likes the idea in principle, but wants to see the final Recommendation before it goes live.  They are, after all, paying for the advertising space and want to ensure the copy is worthy.

Page Managers receive a percentage of the Recommendation fee of €20/week, which increases over time.  This ‘cut’ lasts for the duration of the Recommendation’s life-span.

How do you manage a FeckTV page?

The more Recommendations we bring in, the faster we can launch new City Pages.  The more City Pages, the more Recommendations, etcetera, etcetera – it’s an ever-evolving life-cycle.  Page Managers play their part and duly receive their cut for being so instrumental.

There are three basic viable plans for running a Page as a business.  These are explained in more detail once you apply.  An overview, though, is here:

  1. Do all of the article writing yourself and hire sales people to convert the Recommendations on your behalf
  2. Do all of the selling of Recommendations yourself and hire writers to provide the news article content
  3. Combine the two, writing articles you’re comfortable with and hiring writers for the rest.  Doing some promo yourself and hiring advertising conversion specialists, too.

Of course, Page Managers can mix and match these options to suit their strengths – either personal or the strengths within their team.  I’d suggest that you’re honest with yourself, identify your capabilities and strengths and build your strategy around that.

One thing I’ll add (and this is not just bullshit to get you to sign up): spaces for Recommendations and writers will fill fast.  Initially, we’re looking to launch the bigger cities in the UK.  A locale close to one would be grand.

The bigger the city, the more bars, restaurants and hotels.  Therefore they become more likely targets to sell Recommendations to.  Or at least increase the conversion rate, with so much nearby competition.

Having so many bars, restaurant and hotels in close proximity also cuts down on the legwork, should the selling of Recommendations on foot be one of your chosen methods to bring in revenue.

Okay.  That’s a lot to take in.  I’ll publish a separate piece about Featuring as a Recommended establish on FeckTV.  It’s more for the advertising establishment than Page Manager, but extremely relevant to both.

Tootle pip – see you on the next page.
